Well, I admit that they tried. After the recent media disasters resulting from her interviews, le McCain camp obviously did their best to groom her at lightening speed. A friend of a colleague is a PR consultant for McCain's campaign and folks have reportedly been working around the clock to drill Palin on issues.

My conclusion would be that she did not go down without a fight.

As a woman, as an American and as a multi-celled organism, I still find the very notion that Palin would be considered for this position to be insulting. People who like her because she's folksy and appeals to the common man concern me deeply. At what point did being "elite" become a bad thing? I want a leader who is a highly educated role model: someone to who is waaaaaay smarter, more articulate and more experienced than the your average hockey mom or lipstick-wearing pitbull or pig. Our future VP, especially one who has a 30% chance of becoming president, SHOULD be elite.

I do however respect the strategy that Palin chose to implement in tonight's debate. It is a strategy that I refer to as "deflect and confuse" and I have often employed this strategy myself when I have neglected to meet a deadline or misplaced an important document on my desk.

P.S. Check out that awesome stuff on Obama's website!! My dorky co-workers are all getting matching Vera Wang Obama tees. Awesomepants!!! Definitely expensive for many folks, but a great way to get designers on the obama bus and engage those who can afford it.

Lastly, Sarah Silverman and John Stewart rock.

i went to the opera tonight. it was amazing.

i'm watching a recording of the debate right now. ummm...she did better than i thought. i see evidence of intense training. but in general, i think he looks well-versed, well-thought out. she looks like a cheerleader who accidentally signed up for poly sci.

also - dude on the bus tonight: "i hear they had her down in arizona...training her up for the debates, building up her lack of experience. for example, now she can wave at mexico, too!"

Erica! you meany (to erin). you smarty (about palin). I very much agree that she put much much much time into knowing how to answer the questions that she knew would be coming at her. Too bad she winked about 8 times (once woulda been cute and sufficient). that was odd.
Cheerleader who took poli-sci is right on. Yeah man, so is "deflect and confuse". that's exactly how I felt about her answers! She said things that sounded really great, but that were not generally responses to the questions asked of her. On "Talk of the Nation" someone said (approximately): "She was wonderful at answering the questions she asked herself and mediocre at answering the mediator's questions."
Joe Biden came across as very dedicated to his profession, the policies that he has the opportunity to influence for the better, and all the ways that he can actually better our corrupted democracy. Seriously, I really think he (and Nancy Pelosi for that matter) are amazing for how well they've preserved their honor, dignity, sense of fairness, etc. given the crazy power with which they've been endowed.
