Thanks, Giving, and Love

Hello, beautiful humans. Today, as always, I am grateful for you, and for this shared space we inhabit as a collective. I'd like to honor this day of thanks by starting the ball rolling on our holiday giving. If each of you comment with your most current/preferred email address and the charity of your choice, my friend Noah has agreed to pull names out of a hat (it'll probably be his yarmulke)and email each of us with Secret Santa designations. Sending love and peace your ways, always.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Abs. I'm so grateful for all of you, as well, and can't tell you enough how much each of you have helped make me a stronger, more self-aware woman and how much I value your friend/family-ship.

Plus, I'm a super witty conversationalist now and we all know I didn't get that from Gastonia ;) :) I use multi-syllabic words now at least once per week.

My favorite charity is Friendship with Cambodia. I didn't know if you guys wanted to keep this to domestic charities (and if so, that's totes cool, I can come up with another), but I still think that education for women is important and may be something that the Trump administration will be...less than interested in supporting.

Love you guys!

I think this is a fabulous thing! My address is:

4840 Macarthur Blvd NW, #604
Washington, DC 20007

I'm partial to the ACLU but would love to support other stuff too.

Thank you for all the updates people post! I haven't been on here in months and learned a bunch of stuff. Miss you all.

xoxo

Hey Abs! Thanks for this, sorry it took so long to respond. My brain is forgetting every other thing!

My preference would be Diversity Richmond (diversityrichmond.org). I am part of an organization that partners with them and everything they are doing here is Richmond is amazing. They help so many people themselves as an organization, but also they help countless other groups and non profits.

Hi! I love that we are doing this. I think we should continue every year!

I would like to support NAMI. http://www.nami.org

There are so many other charities too, however, so if you want to give to a local women's shelter, animal shelter, Everytown for Gun Safetyor the like, your favorite environmental group, I'm on board!

I also wondered if anyone knows of a good program that helps support refugees. Either abroad or at home. Or some way to help the children of African countries like Nigeria. Red Cross? I'm going down the rabbit hole; there is so much to do!

Peace, love, gratitude,
Lizzy

Great! So still waiting on response from Gwyn, and preferred email addresses from Erica, Nicky, Becca, and Erin. I decided I want to go with Organic Consumers Association's Regeneration International project: https://secure.organicconsumers.org/o/50865/p/salsa/donation/common/public/?donate_page_KEY=12382 "Your donation to Regeneration International will help build a global network of farmers, scientists, businesses, activists, educators, journalists, governments and consumers who will promote and put into practice regenerative agriculture and land-use practices that: provide abundant, nutritious food; revive local economies; rebuild soil fertility and biodiversity; and restore climate stability." Yeah!

Liz--In response to your question about refugees, I REALLLLLY like the work of the IRC (International Rescue Committee): https://www.rescue.org/who-we-are

"The IRC is the gold standard of aid groups working with refugees. I’ve seen it in action in Darfur, Chad, Central African Republic, Greece, Jordan, South Sudan and other places."

My bad! I'm eltokar@gmail.com. Liz, locally in DC, this place does amazing work with women refugees: http://www.tahirih.org. They also work with domestic violence victims. These days, I take all of my refugee referrals through this organization: http://www.theadvocatesforhumanrights.org.

Abby:

Some other email addresses, which I'm pretty sure you have, are:

ebmcspadden@gmail.com
nntilley@gmail.com
rwickizer@gmail.com

I texted Gwyn to get this on her radar.

Thanks, Erica, for the follow-up! Yes, when we've got confirmation from the PenGwyn that she's in I'll get Noah to pull some names for us.

Hi folks! Sorry for being MIA for so long. :) I'm in! My email address is still gwyn.whieldon@gmail.com, and I think the charity I'd like to support is World Bicycle Relief, https://worldbicyclerelief.org/en/. I've donated to them before, and love the idea.

That, or Planned Parenthood or the ACLU.
