Hello, ever-expanding Quad family!
It's already September... pools are closed, fingers are getting cramped from taking notes in class and typing out papers (for some of us), the ice cream man may be coming around less frequently, and... perhaps we should start talking about NYE, Quad style?? I heard a little rumor, from whom I honestly can not recall, that there has been talk of an evolution in our venue selection. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Where are you all planning to be for Christmas? How about after Christmas?
Despite the 90 degree days reminding me that it's still officially Summer I am feeling excited about seeing you all again, swaddled in Winter garb. :)

Now that I'm back in the DC/Maryland area, I wouldn't mind a New Years here... But I'd be open for discussing further west options.
I think, for example, that Nicky might be getting into the no-fly zone almost at that point. :)
It is a little early, but if it's gonna be a big-travel event, it'd be good to discuss now!

Side note, what about liz's bachelorette gig? I think L&T are still deciding on spring v. fall dates. If it's in the spring, around christmas might be a good time. As you guys recall, winter holiday time was the only time you could all be in town during the 6 month period preceding the nups after I got back from Arg last year. Actually, I think there were basically like 2 individual days that allowed the people I wanted there most to attend. It made for a busy time, but I had a blast!
Anyway, I'm happy to do whatever, but keep us updated liz about whatever works for you.
We'll be in TX for Christmas this year, sorry guys. I won't quite be in the no-fly time period, but pretty close to. :( I will send you all a cardboard cutout of me to use in photos and be there in spirit, haha.
That sucks, but I had a feeling those Texans might be clamoring for some attention. Do you know your Thanksgiving dates yet Nic???
Dudettes- can we make a plan here? Any righteous suggestions? I'm down for traveling to one of you, traveling to a third location, sticking with the DC metro area, or whatvs. But, I'd like to know our deal because pretty soon is the time that Matt often starts to try to convince me to do something with his people, and I need a legit counter-offer.

I'll be in Santa Fe for Christmas and it would only be another.. 8 hours (?) to drive to Boulder.
Becca will be in Oklahoma, right? Also closer to Colorado than to DC.

I'm going to vote for DC, but would enjoy going any point West if I have enough $ to buy a ticket. I'll offer my apt for a small quad gathering too!
To address Tokar's side note, we chose September '12 for the wedding so anytime up to summer '12 is good for pre-wedding festivities :). Maybe I will do a separate poll for best times for all of that girly stuff.

RE: NYE: The verdict is still out on that, mainly financially. I'm trying to get Bit to come out here for Christmas, since she's the reason I'd fly home for it, as I haven't seen her in almost 2 years. If she does make it out here, then I could totally afford to do NYE in CO or Santa Fe. But if I have to go to NC, I know I can't really justify the extra plane ticket to elsewhere and would then vote for a DC NYE. However, no matter how it works out, you guys are definitely all welcome out here for NYE, too. I think we have enough room to house people OR (and this is what I'd love to do) we could rent a cabin in Bend and go skiing/fireplace sitting :) BUT as I'm a little undecided, I recommend you guys kind of planning what you want, and I'll let you know if I can do it. But seriously, you guys should try to make it out here, if you can :) Hopefully, I've only got one more year here... Although, that's also up in the air *sigh* Sorry making plans with me is so freaking hard...
RE: Girly things with Liz: I'll be on the east coast around June (?) for Bit's wedding. At least, I think that's when it is... :) I'm a horrible sister :)

Hey folks! So, to check in on this - - I wanted to affirm that I'm willing to travel anywhere and I'm up for anything. Nonetheless, my law school's annual volunteer trip at the NOLA Pub Def's office wants to leave earlier this year- - 12/30 rather than 1/2ish as we have in the past. I can make arrangements to fly down separately on 1/1, but I have to communicate with them very soon. Thus, settling on NYE plans becomes a paramount concern.
Folks that have definite limitations (i.e. "I cannot fly to Oregon," or "I cannot fly to DC"), I would say that now is your time to shine, if you haven't spoken up already. My understanding is that the breakdown is:
NNTM- out of commission this year due to membership in large Texan clan, back in 2012 with a new plus one
MCS- Oregon or DC
Pengwyn- whatevs
Tokar- whatevs
Lizzar- DC is best
Wick- DC is best (Becca hasn't posted but I talked to her on Saturday)
Abstigail- anywhere out west is best
So DC remains the majority default. I think that this would be the hardest for Abby, since her folks are out west now. But, because of the existing wedding-planning, and travel-to-family costs that other quadlings have on their plates, my understanding is that this isn't the year that Liz, Erin, and Wick are able to convene afar.
If you are interested in hosting a gathering in the DC area, that would rock. Since I'll be flying out the morning after NYE, at the latest, I don't think our place is ideal. Lizzard offered and I think an intimate, oddly-themed gathering at Liz's would work swimmingly. We could all also group-crash someone else's party.
If Liz/Erin/Wick's preference has changed, speak up! I'd love a group trip to NM or Eugene. If not now, then this summer???
I vote for DC area! Lizzard's sounds good if that is an option. Or my place :)
Maybe we can shoot for Boulder next year?

One small spark of hope is that Jesse just interviewed with Hawaii Airlines, and perhaps, should he be hired, he will have "buddy passes" or whatever? I could try to fly standby to DC after Christmas?
Yeah, now that I have no family in the area it's really a different story than in years past. Darn.
Okay, well I'm pretty bummed, but yeah, maybe next year in Boulder???
I'm up for NYE, Liz-style. It's looking like I'll be over there for Xmas, as Lori seemed upset that Bit and I were considering not going. Which means someone will probs chip in for plane tickets. Yes. I'm 28 years old. I fail at adulthood.
There's a chance it will change, but it seems like this works way best for almost everyone (I'm sorry, Abs :( -- I totally know where you're coming from). But since Erica needs to know now, it seems best to plan for DC again. My winter term starts later than it did last year (i.e. NOT on Jan 3), so I can stay in DC a little longer, too -- see some of ya'll for more than just NYE.
I've been thinking of you all a lot lately and really, really missing my quadlings.
