Guess who has a new job?

Me! Many thanks to Tokar for checking out the old resume, invaluable. As of July 25th, I will be working (through Americorps VISTA) with Flatirons Habitat for Humanity as their Family Services Coaching Coordinator. So far it sounds like I'll be helping coordinate the volunteers who teach families how to gain and keep eligibility for a Habitat home, maybe doing some coaching myself, assisting with some marketing efforts, and maybe some other things too! I'm super excited :)

Me too1!!! This work sounds perfect for you and I'm sure you will do an amazing job. Moving along on the new job thread.... I also was offered a job today. Well--training for a new job and if i do well, then I will get the actual job. But I don't know if i actually want it...there are so many things that are up in the air in my life. The job would be a good experience for me and help me determine the right career path--OT or sped. but also the pay is really shitty--(read-no travel $), the work is difficult--sped kids all day long and data analysis, and the commute is shit--1 hour with traffic on 270 (assuming i live in Frederick because as of now its the cheapest place to live and i can't find anything in Takoma park), and the vacation days are set--therefore, I couldn't take off on a monday or tues and come to Ithaca for 4 days. But its a really promising job and I haven't been able to find anything else quite as promising. There is my dilemna. Also my friend Emily has offered me a free place to live in Portland until I can get on my feet. Which is SOOOO tempting. However, I just don't know! Things with Justin are pretty good, but still a little up in the air (mostly because I still question some things). He said he would follow me to Portland in January if I moved there. But who knows...... blondegiraffe, decision time is here!

wow! congrats to nicky on the job! habitat is a great organization and so lucky to have you! yay :)

becca: congrats on the need to make important decisions. i know it seems like there are several negatives (lack of pay, long commute, incredibly decreased lack of freedom) to the job offer, but you could at least try the training or commit to it for a year. that way, you won't be doing something you don't like for too long, but it will give you work/career experience for the future. just DON'T do what i did and completely stop looking. having a job doesn't mean you stop applying for other jobs :) keep us posted on what you decide.

erica: we all continue to appreciate your stellar resume/cover letter editing :)

Good job, Nicky :)
Ha, not supposed to be a third-grade-level pun. But, yes, congrats on A) finding a job that interests you; B) finding a job that's helping people rather than corporations! Keep us updated on how it's going.

Go Nicky! I second what everyone else said... This sounds like such meaningful work! I am glad all your job search work has paid off :)

Becca - that is a tough decision... only major con seems to be the pay. Any word? You still deserve a congrats, though!
