This is the second time I've looked at these photos without being able to detect a theme amongst three of them absent from the fourth. Or... among four absent from the fifth? Darn. I'm a poor counter.
Some guesses, which really would not speak well for the cleverness of the riddle: -Only one (stair pic) has a non-human object (the stairway/flags) as the main focus? -All but one (of squinty Erica) were taken in Japan? -Only the Karaoke picture features short-sleeved shirts?
Good work Abby. I didn't realize how much thought I might have provoked by posting. I found that picture of Erica and Gwyn in the background doing a puzzle in Stone Harbor and it made me feel silly. You are right - the rest are from Japan. I like your other categories too, though. Erica, how do you know what Albermarle Swash is?
Erica knows because: A) Erica knows everything B) Erica's a good guesser C) Erica's mother did interior design and Erica learned a lot about different patterns and fabric design D) Erica is good at convincing you that she knows what she's talking about, even when she doesn't!
But, actually, I cheated. Nicky designed a holiday card for my law firm using this font, which I then had to replicate in order to incorporate last minute edits to the card. This involved downloading albermarle swash.
I also love the words together. "albermarle swash" is almost as attractive to me as "lipton pimento" and "cellar door."

I might name my first born cellar door. would you mind? that or Serengeti. I love that word. I also love Squamous. and Saggital.
